From the Pastor's Desk: "A Time for All Things"

Truly, there is a time for all things, including a time for arriving and a time for leaving.  For me, I am approaching that "time for leaving", and it's proving to be a difficult challenge!
I always knew this day would come; it's how we operate as United Methodists.  What I was unprepared for is how attached I have grown to the North English, Millersburg and Deep River communities.  Over the last few years we have laughed together, cried together, and lifted our voices together in praise, in prayer and in worship.
I have learned many lessons, and you have forgiven me for many mistakes.  For that, I am forever grateful!  Hopefully I will be able to remember the lessons and avoid some mistakes in the future.  You have been supportive of myself and my family, and we have grown to love you, too.
But now the time has come to move on.  There is sadness, but there should also be a sense of gladness, also.  Change presents the opportunity for new growth, for new ideas and for new possibilities as individuals and as churches.  Part of growing is moving forward, although often we would like to stay where we are.  Such is the way of all life.
So now the season of change is upon us.  At churches all over Iowa we say a tearful good-by, and a week later a joyful "Hello!" to new pastors and new congregations.  I can promise you that there will always be a very tender and warm spot in my heart for the three churches and communities I must leave, not only because you were my first charge, but because I have grown to love you with God's love that we share for one another.  You were, you are and you will always remain a very special blessing to all who will come to know you, and I pray every Blessing for you as you move forward.

Blessings,

Pastor Ben
